What is Emergency Management?

Emergency management involves planning for and dealing with all types of emergencies that may occur in the township and surrounding areas. These may include natural disasters such as fires, floods, snowstorms, hurricanes, tornados and earthquakes as well as man-made or technological events such as hazardous materials releases, power outages and nuclear emergencies at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station.

Through planning and community education, directed by the Emergency Management Coordinator, the Newport Township Emergency Management prepares for the safety of the community by developing and maintaining Emergency Operation Plans for the township. In the event of a disaster or emergency, emergency management provides coordination and resource management for response efforts.

In the event of a disaster or significant emergency, the township Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be operated from the township Municipal Building to coordinate response and recovery efforts.
Preparedness information as well as special weather information and notification will be put out to the public via the Newport Township Emergency Management Facebook page as well as via the Township’s TextMYGov messaging system. Be sure to follow our Facebook page and sign-up to receive TextMYGov messages.

Residents with Special Needs

Any residents that may have special needs( i.e.: hearing impaired, bedridden, special medical devices, mobility issues) in the event of a disaster or emergency can complete a Request for Special Assistance form and return it to ema@newporttownship.org or fill out the Talen Energy Special Needs card or the Emergency Management Special needs contact form.  Having the most up-date information is very important to planning and for responses.

Business’

Business’ in the township are asked to complete the business contact form that is mailed annually or download here and email the completed form to  ema@newporttownship.org or mail to the municipal building at 351 W. Kirmar Ave. Nanticoke, PA 18634. These contact forms are beneficial in making contact in the event of a disaster or emergency at the property.

Volunteers
Volunteers needed! Are you interested in helping in a disaster or emergency? Here is your chance. Volunteers in emergency management do not need any emergency response training and will not be at the scene. Most of our staff will work at the Emergency Operations Center located at the municipal building, coordinating operations efforts. Training will be provided. If you are interested in joining us, or have questions email jason.kowalski@newporttownship.org
